Sponsorship can happen through product placement or through a whole product such as the Premier League. Rizzle Kicks music video (Skip to the good bit) Beats headphones by Dr Dre. Mini by BMW displayed for a total of 10 seconds to gain £30,000 sponsorship. OK/GO Video 1. What is the purpose of the music video?- To advertise the Silver Chevrolet Sonic. 2. Who is it sponsored by?-  The music video is sponsored by Chevrolet to advertise their new product. 3. Why did OK GO agree to this? What is the pyramid market structure?- 90% of people are lurkers, 9% will engage but only 1% will actually donate to the cause. This task was to watch a video where someone with a low budget created his own film by starting a kickstarter project to fund all his expenditure fees. I learnt how long one person spent developing a concept and how long it ran for as well as all the things that contribute to the expenditure and made me think more about when to spend and when to save or cut costs.

Budget-£3.5 Million Director- Danny Boyle Writer- Andrew MacDonald Producer- John Hodge Synopsis This is a film of Irvine Welsh's cult Scottish novel trainspotting a series of interlinked stories concentrating on heroin-hooked anti-hero Mark Renton. The rights to the screenplay If you translate a novel into a movie, the author has to get the screen rights. Red Dwarf stole the rights to Trainspotting from Danny Boyle so he wouldn't direct it as they wanted to co-produce it because they knew in the future it may be worth a lot of money. The film making threesome were badgered by Hollywood producer Scott Rudin who offered £250,00 to film whatever they desired. A deal for two per cent of the films budget was agreed for Danny Boyle to give Red Dwarf. This was as long as Noel Gay stepped back from his duties in exchange for a share of the profits and a name on the credits. Low Budget Film making key points

Use pre-existing resources that are available and working with what you've got so you work round the resources you have. Work out locations with easy access and availability that are free or cheap. Use the people you know who may have an interest in acting as your actors if you don't have a budget to hire and pay fixed wages for real actors. Make a list of equipment, props and costumes you own and find cheap places to buy or rent to film and allow easy access. Incorporate local events that seem like it may be good footage. Minimise the amount of main characters with a few supporting roles And don't include ensemble scenes. Avoid exterior night scenes because it requires good lighting which is expensive to buy or rent. Hollywood blockbusters and the progression of TV drama series are putting strains on low budget smaller films.   UK films costing from £500,000 to about £30m to make, fell from 77 to 60 between 2014 and 2015. This is the lowest number made since 2006, according to annual figures published by the British Film Institute (BFI). Hollywood blockbusters made in the UK, such as Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and Alien: Covenant, which account for the lion’s share of the £1.6bn feature film market with just under 20 films produced in 2015. Films from the major studios take more than 90% of the box office. This leaves about 650 films in the US chasing 9% of the box office. Pressure is being ramped on big-budget drama flooding TV, typified by shows such as Netflix’s £100m co-production The Crown. In the US the number of scripted shows being made annually has more than doubled since 2010 to more than 500 this year; Netflix recently revealed it has 90 original productions under way in Europe alone

This task has taught me that before thinking about the finished product,  there is so much that needs to be done before the production stage and before anything is presented to the public.

What is included in Pre-production?

Film Industry For a small video company, pre-production may refer to everything that happens before shooting begins, for example, meeting with the client, research, storyboarding, location planning, etc. For feature films, pre-production is more specific and only begins when other milestones have been met such as financing, screenplay, casting and major staffing. In this case pre-production includes: Location Scouting- The act of visiting and assessing the suitability of potential filming locations. Prop and wardrobe identification and preparation- Choosing the right clothing and props for the period and place in which a film is set. Special effects identification and preparation- Using the correct technology and effects that is suitable to the type of film that is made. Production schedule- Planning when the film is going to be shot, which locations will be used, who needs to be involved and when. Set Construction- Building the sets and scenery for all of the location sho

Introductory Post

My name is Ryan Gould and this is the start of unit 2: Pre-production and planning. Pre-production and planning are key aspects of any digital media production. If time is spent well leading up to production, time and money will be saved. By completing this unit, i will understand the pre-production process that the digital media industry follows when creating a product.
